waking up in the water

So Big Wave was basically my summer anthem, and the Jenny & Johnny show on Monday was full of girl plus boy harmonies and general dreaminess - turns out not only are they an indie power couple of the first order but super sweet too. One of the guys from Phantom Planet (back in the day when Jason Schwartzman was their drummer...swoon) introduced my BFF and me to the music of Rilo Kiley  and I've been girl-crushing on Jenny Lewis ever since. It's really great to find out that she is as nice as I always hoped she'd be, and that she loves Gram Parsons as much as I do. What else does Jenny recommend? Listening to Gram and Emmylou for learning how to sing harmonies, bordeaux for good wine drinking, Sydney over Melbourne.

you're all shook up, aren't you baby?

She taught Elvis how to swivel his hips when he was still royalty in waiting (and turned down his marriage proposal). Was the biggest and baddest of Russ Meyer's dangerously curvy heroines with real-life martial art skills. Street-walked and stripped her way into Irma La Duce and Our Man Flint. Took names, broke hearts: R.I.P. Ms Tura Satana.

You'll never be young again

Just another Friday night at the Chauvel, watching Benjamin Braddock deal with his post-college ennui by drifting in his parent's pool and into the arms of two generations of serious foxes. If you had a young Dustin Hoffman wouldn't you do the same?

What Would John Waters Do?

"If you go home with somebody, and they don't have books, don't fuck 'em!"

Is it possible to love this man too much?

Yeah, didn't think so.
